Overwhelmed, tired, and a long to-do list

As you close out this year, you may notice that you’re feeling really tired. You’re not alone girlfriend -  we're all so freaking tired. I think it's a combination of the trauma we're witnessing abroad and feeling hopeless, the weather getting cooler outside and a bit gloomy, plus the impending holiday season of stress and frustration that's waiting for us. Yayyyyy.🙃

Being tired is always annoying, but it's especially annoying when you have a lot of things to do. So I'm gonna cut to the chase and share some tips on how to do all the things you gotta do when you're not feelin' it…

Prioritize your tasks

The cool part about this is when you've completed a task, you get to cross it off your list and that feels so satisfying! Organizing your list also makes you feel like you already accomplished a task, because organizing is indeed a task - yay you! Something that can help is breaking down bigger tasks into small ones. If something can be cut down into smaller, bite-size pieces then that will help you feel less intimidated and annoyed. While it may seem like “more” to do, it’s actually smaller, quicker-to-fix, and more tangible than one big thing. For example: cleaning your bathroom versus cleaning your shower, toilet, and sinks. One big thing versus three smaller things!

Set a timer and move your body

It's recommended to look away from your computer screen every 20 minutes, for 20 seconds, and look at something 20 feet away. It's also recommended to take a break every 40 minutes, move around for 10 minutes, and then return to your task. Setting a timer gives you something to look forward to and reminds you to move your body! Moving your body and taking breaks is good for your overall health - it gets your blood flowing, your mind stimulated, and serves as a reminder that there is more to your day than completing these dreadful tasks.

Remember - you are more than your tasks! You’re a human being, not a human doing. 😉

Stay hydrated and mindful of your body

The only thing worse than doing things while tired is doing them while dehydrated. Your body craves water to do all the things it needs to do, so make sure to have a bottle nearby and set a timer every 15-20 mins to remind you! Bonus points if you decrease things that dehydrate you, like coffee and sugar.

A big part of this is listening to your body when it says “enough!” While you do want to challenge yourself and grow, you also don't want to overextend yourself. If you notice that you're nodding off, feeling sore, or something else that's potentially alarming, then you'll want to take a break, delegate that task to someone else, or put it on tomorrow's to-do list.

I’m wishing you moments of rest and self-care while you do the things you gotta do sis. I'm rooting for you and happy to remind you that you’re capable of completing the boring tasks, even when you’re tired. You got this!👏🏾
