Healing words from God to Christian women of color in today’s oppressive world
In a world that's filled with hurt and sin, I want to remind you of something sacred that God says:
You were fearfully and wonderfully made by a God who knows you by name, sees your every struggle, and still calls you “beloved.”
Yes you.
The woman of color that gets overlooked because of racism and sexism.
The woman of color who’s unlearning unhealthy values and habits from her family, friends, toxic Christian spaces, society, and more.
The woman of color who’s sick of changing herself to fit into white spaces…and is also tired of being a holy disruptor or “sticking out”.
The woman of color who keeps hearing “I’ll pray for you” with judgement instead of care in church spaces.
The woman of color who’s righteous anger is valid, not sinful or “too much”, at the enemy’s trickery through MAGA, theo-bros, and other people who follow a false God.
The woman of color who’s sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I'm sure your Christian experience is layered—with purpose, history, beauty, ashes, joy, burdens, grief. You carry so much. You give so much. And sometimes it's heavy. So I want to encourage you around this - you don't have to carry it alone.
I believe with everything in me that God is raising you up
For such a time as this, we’re being raised up to disrupt sinful patriarchy, standards, and spirits that are trying to dissuade us from loving and following Christ. The way you disrupt these systems is unique to you sis. It could look like volunteering with grassroots organizations, giving money to a friend in need, protesting, using your voice, praying.
A key thing I want to address is empowerment - let’s acknowledge that feeling empowered to create change is difficult to attain and maintain, especially when we keep waking up to new horrible news. So take a moment and think about what feeds your soul - these are the same things that can empower you too:
spend time in nature
speak with friend who uplifts you
worship God
rest in the Lord
meditate on Scripture
My prayer is that you seek God for wisdom and know that you are created for a time such as this.
Be whole, not perfect
Holy wholeness doesn’t come from hustling or striving like the world says. It doesn’t come from over-volunteering at church in order to feel loved by God, pushing down your honest feelings in order to be good “enough” for God, or debating online because “you’re in the army of God”. It comes from resting in God, honoring your holistic health (mind, body, and soul), and giving yourself permission to heal and grow.
And while the world (and toxic church spaces🙃) expect perfection, please know that God doesn’t. He doesn’t look at you wagging His finger in disappointment. He’s not mad that you forgot to have your devotional time.
He’s embracing you, hugging you, searching for you with love and care in His heart.
May you be reminded of who God actually is and how He seeks you, replacing all the lies from the enemy.
Embrace these reminders daily
God knows all this is hard. I imagine that’s one reason why it says in Romans 12:2 to constantly renew your mind - we live in a world opposite to God, so we need constant reminds of God’s truth, love, and justice. Here are some affirmations to embody today:
My wellness matters to God because God cares about all of me.
I can receive His grace when I “fail” - He doesn’t expect me to be perfect.
My community is an extension of His care, so I will ask for help.
I don’t have to pour from an empty cup - I can use wisdom with my boundaries.
So take a deep breath, sis. Exhale. God’s got you.
May the Prince of Peace shower you with peace that surpasses all understanding. May the God of truth deposit empowerment into you daily. May the Holy Spirit ignite your hope and faith.💜
